Many people have seen a Garter snake without actually knowing. This set of info will make this species much easier to identify.
Appearance
The Garter snake appears with a golden brown colored back with a yellowish underbelly. It is regarded as one of the most common snakes on the planet. There are variations to the colors these snakes exhibit with a few changes. But one thing peculiar to this snake is the three stripes lining on through its entire back.
Biology
Garter snakes aren’t like other snakes that lay eggs, meaning they’re ovoviviparous (give birth to their babies live). A mature Garter could give birth to at least twenty snakes in one fell swoop.
Life Cycle
After the birth cycle is completed, these snakes will take less than a quarter to achieve pre-adult stage. Within a year, these snakes will be fully grown to adult status and can live for several years before passing on.
Habitat
This snake enjoys living in many places, and it won’t be a surprise if you find them in your building. The snake doesn’t have any poisonous venom and ranks among the most common snakes in urban areas.
Diet
Garter snakes mainly feast on worms, frogs, and fishes. When they stun their prey, they swallow them whole and move on to digestion almost immediately.
Behavior
This snake is mostly active during the day time. It has a very quick disposition and can scale a huge expanse of space in a short while. If this snake is threatened, it gives off a bad smell to ward off any impending attack.
